Arusha to Lake Natron
The drive north through Maasai country to the base of the mountain, arriving in the afternoon. An early dinner and a few hours of sleep before a midnight start.

Summit and return
We climb from around midnight, gaining roughly 1,600 m on loose ash and rock to reach the crater rim near sunrise. Descend through the morning, rest at the base, then drive back to Arusha.
