A single day, planned around your pickup time and your interests, with your own vehicle and guide.

Ages

All ages

Day trips are the easiest way to travel with small children or with anyone who would rather not sleep under canvas.

Fitness

Easy to moderate

Most day trips involve an hour or two of walking on uneven ground. The Kilimanjaro day hike is the exception and asks for a full day on your feet.

Group size: 1 to 7 travellers per vehicle

Day by day.

  1. 1

    Arusha National Park

We collect you early and drive to Ngurdoto Gate. The morning is a game drive through forest and around the Ngurdoto crater rim, with black-and-white colobus in the canopy. After a picnic lunch by the Momella lakes there is a guided walk with an armed ranger among giraffe, buffalo and waterbuck, and canoeing on the small lakes if conditions allow. Back in Arusha or Moshi by evening.

We book against availability for your dates rather than naming a property we may not be able to get you into. Your written quotation names every lodge and camp before you pay anything.

Year-round

Every day trip on this page runs in any month. Waterfalls are at their most impressive during and just after the rains, and the Chemka springs are warm whatever the weather is doing outside.

Questions about this trip.

Can we do a walking safari here?

Yes, and it is the reason to come. Arusha National Park is one of the few parks in the north where you can walk with an armed ranger, among giraffe and buffalo.

Will we see elephant or lion?

Very unlikely. The park has almost no lion and elephant are rare. What it does have is giraffe in numbers, colobus monkey, buffalo, flamingo on the Momella lakes and the best view of Kilimanjaro from anywhere at ground level.

Is it a good first day after landing?

It is an excellent one. It is an hour from Arusha, the walking helps with the flight, and it sets up the rest of the circuit.
