Lake Eyasi
We leave before first light, because that is when the Hadzabe hunt. You walk out with them, watch a fire lit by friction in under a minute, and see how the bows are used. Afterwards we visit a Datoga homestead where arrowheads and jewellery are forged from scrap brass. Back in Karatu by early afternoon.

Day trips return to your own hotel in Moshi or Arusha the same evening. If you have not booked one yet, tell us and we will suggest somewhere in the right part of town for your pickup.
We book against availability for your dates rather than naming a property we may not be able to get you into. Your written quotation names every lodge and camp before you pay anything.

Every day trip on this page runs in any month. Waterfalls are at their most impressive during and just after the rains, and the Chemka springs are warm whatever the weather is doing outside.

How long is the day?
Long. Four to five hours of driving each way and a pre-dawn start, because the hunt happens at first light and there is no point arriving after it.
Would we be better doing this as an overnight?
Almost always, yes, and we will suggest it. Sleeping near Eyasi turns a fourteen-hour day into a relaxed morning. The day trip exists for people whose dates leave no other option.
Is the visit ethical?
We arrange it directly with the families rather than through a broker, we go when they hunt rather than staging a hunt for us, and payment goes to the community. Ask before photographing anyone.
