Lake Manyara Day Safari
A small park that suits a single day better than almost any other: groundwater forest, a soda lake full of birds, and the floodplain under the Rift Valley wall.

Day trips are the easiest way to travel with small children or with anyone who would rather not sleep under canvas.

Lake Manyara National Park
An early pickup from your hotel and the drive down into the Rift Valley. From the gate the road runs straight into jungle-like groundwater forest, where baboons lounge on the verge and blue monkeys work the mahogany canopy. Beyond it the floodplain opens out towards the lake, which is best known for its flamingos, pelicans and cormorants but holds several hundred other species. The narrow acacia belt is where Manyara's tree-climbing lions and its elephants are usually found. A picnic lunch, more game viewing, and back to your hotel by evening.

Day trips return to your own hotel in Moshi or Arusha the same evening. If you have not booked one yet, tell us and we will suggest somewhere in the right part of town for your pickup.
We book against availability for your dates rather than naming a property we may not be able to get you into. Your written quotation names every lodge and camp before you pay anything.

Year-round
Every day trip on this page runs in any month. Waterfalls are at their most impressive during and just after the rains, and the Chemka springs are warm whatever the weather is doing outside.
Questions about this trip.
Will we see the tree-climbing lions?
Sometimes. They are genuinely there, in the acacia belt, and they are genuinely not guaranteed. The birds and the elephants are the reliable part of the day.
Is one day enough for Manyara?
Yes. It is a small park and a day covers it properly, which is why it works as a day trip when the Serengeti does not.
