Materuni
We collect you from Moshi mid-morning and drive up to Materuni village on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. A guided walk of about forty-five minutes leads to the waterfall and its pool — bring swimming things. After a local lunch, the village coffee tour takes you through picking, pulping, roasting and pounding, with singing, and finishes with a cup of what you have just made. Back in Moshi by late afternoon.

Day trips return to your own hotel in Moshi or Arusha the same evening. If you have not booked one yet, tell us and we will suggest somewhere in the right part of town for your pickup.

Every day trip on this page runs in any month. Waterfalls are at their most impressive during and just after the rains, and the Chemka springs are warm whatever the weather is doing outside.

How hard is the walk to the falls?
About 45 minutes each way on a steep, often muddy path with some rock steps. Trainers with grip are enough; sandals are not.
Can we swim?
You can. The pool at the base is deep and extremely cold, and the spray reaches a long way, so bring something dry to change into.
Is the coffee tour a demonstration or the real thing?
It is the real thing, on a smallholding in the village. You pick, pulp, roast and grind by hand, and you drink what you made.
