Our home town, at the foot of the mountain.
Moshi sits directly beneath Kilimanjaro and is where Einoti Safaris is based. It is a walkable, unhurried town, and the Chagga villages on the slopes above it — Materuni among them — grow some of the best arabica coffee in the country.
A short drive and a green walk lead to a waterfall dropping into a cold pool. The village runs a coffee tour where you pick, pulp, roast and pound the beans yourself, then drink the result. It is the most popular single day out from Moshi, and deservedly so.
Kikuletwa, usually called Chemka, is a spring-fed pool of startlingly clear turquoise water under fig roots about an hour from town. It is the right thing to do the day after coming off Kilimanjaro.
